What You Need To Know When You Are Ready To Retire From BOCES.

IN ORDER TO COLLECT MONEY FOR UNUSED SICK DAYS:

The unit member must be at least 55 years of age and have at least ten (10) years of credited BOCES service.
  1. The unit member must submit his or her resignation in writing to the District Superintendent by January 1st of the calendar year in which the resignation is to be effective, but in no case shall notification of resignation be less than thirty (30) days prior to the effective date.
  2. You need to fill out EER Form 000, BOCES FISP Unused Sick Days form, and return it to the BOCES Purchasing Agent.. The deadline for submission of this form is January 1st of the calendar year in which retirement is to be effective.
  3. Notify your Union President so your life insurance policy can be transfered directly to you. When you retire you are responsible for keeping the premiums up.
  4.  You the employee are responsible for contacting the Ing. representative Mr. Tom Dinapoli at 431-6360 to set up your 403(b) account prior to retirement. This account is required in order to have your sick days reimbursed to you. If an account is not set up prior it will hold up your payment.  
  5. Contact NYSUT in Potsdam, 265-2160, to find out when consultations will be done. Have them schedule a retirement consultation for you. This will show you what you will make and answer any questions you may have.
